Once you’ve taken photos with your digital camera, you need to store them someplace. You could continually leave them on the memory card, although that would get rather costly, so let’s explore one or two other alternatives.

1. Transfer your images onto your computer. Most cameras come with a wire to connect your camera to your computer, a CD with a downloading program and an instruction booklet. Transferring the images is quick and straightforward with a free Photoshop download. Once they’re on the computer, you can delete the images from your memory card and start taking more photos.

2. Burn your images onto a CD. If you have a CD burner on your computer, you can make photo discs to store or share with others. When it comes to photos, it is best to use a CD that can not be written over. This will save the heartache of losing precious photos. Label the CD and store it where it might be gotten conveniently when you need to see your photos.

3. Retail outlet your images on a public web site. There are a lot of photo-hosting sites on the net. Some charge for the service, although a lot of are absolutely zero cost. You have the choice to password-guard your images or share them with the world. This option helps if your computer need to crash. Your photos are safe.

4. Print your images and place them in a photo album. A good deal of folks nonetheless like turning the pages of a photo album and reviewing the memories. This also makes it possible for those without a computer to view your photos.

5. Produce a photo gift. There are places out there that will take your digital image and place in on shirts, mouse pads, cups, calendars and numerous other items. These make remarkable gifts and provide a technique to keep a cherished picture near at all times.

These are just one or two suggestions. Working with your creativity, you will come up with a lot of more tips.

Graphic designers, photographers, videographers, publishers and PC users at large: all of them depend on their digital hardware being capable of rendering colours right. But the sad reality is your colors will differ dependent on the output gizmo. A monitor’s red is not the same as an inkjet printer’s red. Besides, what's “red”?

Here are 10 things you can do in order to make sure red is red, whichever device has to render it.

1. Get a good monitor. OK, this is an open door, but by “good” i mean a monitor you can calibrate. That rules out all the office monitors, the Apple Theatres and leaves you with LaCie 300 range and Eizo ColorEdge products.

2. Purchase a good calibration and profiling application. You can get software that comes with a top quality GretagMacbeth Display 2 colorimeter (called the “Squid 2″ by Colour Solutions), and has a feature called “software calibration”. The second calibrates any monitor by storing the calibration data (the Tone Response Curve) in the video card’s look up tables. The only requirement: your video card should support it. ATI’s Radeon range supports this.

3. Calibrate and make a colour profile for your monitor once a month. Calibration isn't like profiling. Calibration means the colour look bup tables in the monitor are put into a known state, while a profile only describes the monitor’s perception of colors. With calibration you tell the monitor that it must render “pure red” by setting its colour channels in a certain manner. The profile you create will tell your image modifying software, or graphic design application that pure red for this monitor means a particular mixture of its color channels.

4. Buy an inkjet printer that has non-clogging print heads. Ideally, print heads shouldn't ever block. If they do, you can be assured your colors will come out nasty. If they do not, you can still have bad colours, but now at the least you can something about it. Good printers are rather more costly than the bottom-price inkjet printers you can buy these days. Think of paying something similar to 200 USD at a minimum. For first-class printers like the HP Photosmart Pro B9180, expect to pay 700 Dollars.

5. Drive your inkjet through a Raster Image Processor. Many high-end printers support a RIP, although not all RIPs are created equal. EFI makes good RIPs, as do the vendors that develop more expensive RIPs for giant format printers. EFI has a reasonable RIP, with support for ink limiting, black start setting, etc, for an exceedingly decent price. It is the EFI Designer Edition.

6. Profile your printer and use that profile with your RIP to get correct colors, and economize on ink consumption. Through the profile settings, you can determine how much ink gets sprayed onto the page. For some paper types, you are able to save a lot of money by setting ink limiting to it’s perfect level for your printer.

7. Use established equipment such as X-Rite/GretagMacbeth or Barbieri to generate your CMYK printer profile. You need to create a profile for every paper not supported by your printer manufacturer. If you must use your printer in RGB mode, you can do with more cost-effective profiling systems. The simplest way to ensure a high quality profile is formed when you don't have the budget to get a system that costs a couple of thousand bucks, is to try and appeal to a remote service such as Thinck.com’s.

8. Use an image editing application like Photoshop, which has a “softproof” feature. To softproof means you are going to be able to visually determine an image’s colors on-screen with enough precision to be confident the colors will match the printed output. Softproofing is never one on one, but can come extraordinarily close, and is an alternate way of saving money by saving on both wasted paper and ink.

8. When editing your image, set the grey balance first. Select a neutral grey area in your image (if you took a photograph, you will remember what was gray, and if you do not, there are almost always objects that must definitely be gray) and set this area as your neutral gray tone. In Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, you do it by choosing the Levels or Curves tool, selecting the grey eye dropper in the dialogue window, and clicking with this specific tool in the neutral area of your image.

9. If your image has a warm tone to it, e.g. As it was shot at dusk or with tungsten light and no flash, you can neutralize colour casts rather by choosing an area that's not precisely neutral but more towards the warm tone of the image. So long as the area is greyish by nature, the image will adjust. In an appropriate way.

10. Be careful with setting Saturation levels too high. If you boost saturation, you are also boosting colour inaccuracies. You can boost the saturation of your image when you are sure it is colour-accurate.
